Battery dies fast on a night out. Note your accommodation address offline and carry a power bank if you're out past midnight.
Drink Water Between Rounds
Most venues will give you tap water on request. Alternate alcoholic drinks with water and eat before you head out.

Stay with your group, keep an eye on your drink, and speak to venue staff or Gardaí if something doesn't feel right. The city is generally safe, but ordinary care goes a long way.

Most pubs close around 11.30pm, late bars typically stay open until 1am or 2am, and clubs generally finish between 2am and 2.30am. Closing times can vary by venue and by night, so check individual listings.
Which nights are best for live music?
Traditional sessions run all week, but Friday and Saturday offer the widest choice of gigs. Midweek is underrated — many touring acts play smaller rooms Tuesday to Thursday with cheaper tickets.
Do I need to book or buy tickets in advance?
Regular pub sessions and most bars are walk-in. Ticketed gigs and club nights, especially around festivals and bank holidays, often sell out — we recommend booking ahead for anything with a headline act.
Is Galway nightlife suitable for a quieter night out?
Absolutely. Whiskey bars, hotel lounges and upstairs rooms like our jazz picks offer relaxed atmospheres where conversation is easy, even at weekends. Sunday evenings citywide are notably calmer.
Can I get home late at night?
Taxis operate from ranks around Eyre Square and the docks, with demand highest after club closing times. If you're staying outside the city, pre-booking is strongly advised for post-midnight travel.
